The results of dedicated yarn dyers on June 24, 2016 in Palm Desert at the Stephanie Gaustad workshop. We stood outside in 110 degree temperature while our dye pot (a lobster sized pot with a lid) reached the ideal temperature of 190 degrees. Then the 12 of us put our assorted skeins of wool yarn in the near boiling water and added the 3 primary printer’s colors of magenta, yellow and cyan to different spots in the pot without stirring.
The next day, after the water had cooled overnight, we pulled out our skeins. The water was clear and all the dye was soaked up in the yarns. It was truly fascinating to see the variation of colors created by just the 3 primary dyes we used and where in the pot we placed our skeins.
Here’s a photo of the assorted skeins drying in the sunlight.
